The flying cars were inspired by movie stunts. In the movies cars would leave the tailgate of a large cargo airplane and then tumble through the sky. If we could find ways to make the cars fly wheels to earth with skydivers along for the ride, we'd have something unique, and very cool.
Whenever you do something new, there are unanswered questions. We expected our first car to tumble from the plane and fall relatively straight for the ground. We didn't expect much horizontal flight from a heavy car. We were wrong. Cars fly all over the sky! Their surface areas, combined with their weight make them super efficient.
One of our camera flyers found out the hard way, that cars fly. At about 10,000 feet, our first car ran into him at full speed. He was able to minimize the impact, but his shot was nothing less than incredible.
